Brooklyn Art Exhibit
I am very excited to announce that the two Forest Feast images above, plus a still life I did on Passover Seder have been chosen to be part of an exhibition going up in January in Brooklyn, NY at the Powerhouse Area as part of the NY Photo Festival. If anyone is around, please stop by the opening on Jan. 6th at 6pm!
Seasonal Persimmons
Persimmons are ripe and in season these days in the Bay Area! I saw an ad on craigslist for “free persimmons”. I drove down to the address where they told me the tree was, only to find that the remaining little orange jewels were so high up I would have needed a cherry picker to grab them. I did however find this lovely little intact fruit on the ground and brought it home to make something with…
Mango Salsa
Mango salsa! Great with beer. Finely dice one (not too ripe) mango and one (not too ripe) avocado. Combine with diced red onion and cilantro. Dress salsa with a bit of lime and salt (for a sweet salty kick) and eat with tortilla chips.
Pumpkin Challah Cinnamon Rolls
Challah dough makes for great cinnamon rolls- the dough is sweet and a little chewy, yum! Use my recipe for challah dough as is (or add a little pumpkin puree when you’re mixing it together). I found a jar of pumpkin butter at Trader Joe’s which was a great glaze, but you can also just make a basic icing (1c powdered sugar + 2T butter + 2t milk+ 1/4t cinnamon). Glaze right as they come out of the oven and enjoy immediately!
